Starting in Wray, in the Lune Valley this route crosses Salter Fell [Hornby] on Salter Fell Road, an isolated Roman road between the villages of Wray and Slaidburn.

Theres ace views of the sea the lower lakes and all of the 3 peaks in one view, (beyond words) with views of Pendle hill on the other side.

Like the best routes, its a steady but sometimes challenging climb to the top, with an equally long and sometimes rocky descent over the River Hodder and into Slaidburn.

Its difficult to loop this route without miles of tarmac back to your start point, failing that turn back on yourself and try it in reverse.

Pretty remote; I got caught out with a ripped tyre and took it easy down the best descents because I didn’t fancy walking. Its the kinda route I would take it very easy on if riding solo. On the whole, excellent!

The Route

1. School Lane, of Main Street Wray, a short but sometimes quite steep tarmac climb
2. Left, tarmac onto Moor Lane
3. Left at Salter onto Hornby Road which graduates from tarmac into bridleway (Salter Fell Road)
4. Salter Fell Bridleway
5. Woodhouse Lane (tarmac) into Slaidburn

Theres the George & Dragon pub in Wray, and a couple of shops. Also the Hark to Bounty Inn at the other end in Slaidburn. We opted for the River Bank Tearooms in Slaidburn, a cycle friendly venue with great views and good cappuccino.
