Timed nicely with the official opening of the Pennine Bridleway, Cicerone publishing has produced an excellent new guidebook aptly titled "Cycling the Pennine Bridleway" which covers the Lancashire and Yorkshire Dales sections of the Pennine Bridleway.

The Pennine Bridleway is a 10 year project to connect the Peak District to Cumbria via Lancashire, Calderdale and the Yorkshire Dales using ancient packhorse trade routes and drove roads that have been connected by new links. The Pennine Bridleway was officially opened in June 2012

The mountain bike guide book Cycling the Pennine Bridleway maps and describes 110 miles of the 200 Mile trail, focusing on the sections that pass through Lancashire and the Yorkshire Dales. From Summit at the bottom of the Mary Towneley Loop to Ravenstonedale near Kirkby Stephen in Cumbria.

The guide also includes 11 graded loops in the Yorkshire Dales based on looping sections of the Pennine Bridleway and allows the rider to attempt short sections of the Pennine Bridleway rather than riding it in its entirety.

As the Yorkshire Dales sections of the Pennine Bridleway run parallel to the Settle to Carlisle Railway, the author maps out the bike routes in a convenient way that start and finish close to the nearest railway station.

The rides included in the book comprise the following sections

The Mary Towneley Loop
Summit to Hurstwood (anti-clockwise)

The Lancashire Link:
Hurstwood to Barnoldswick
Barnoldswick to Long Preston

The Yorkshire Dales:
Long Preston to Horton-in-Ribblesdale
